The Rivian unveiled the R3X alongside its sibling, the R3, in a surprise unveiling during the R2 launch event. With an electric motor configuration, the R3X won't have a traditional engine and transmission. Details are still emerging, but the R3X is expected to come in a tri-motor configuration, giving it more power and performance than the standard R3. Range estimates haven't been announced specifically for the R3X, but it likely won't match the R3's potential 300+ mile range due to the performance focus. Instead, it will rely on battery packs and electric motors to turn the wheels. According to Rivian, the R3X will offer maximum performance for the R3 line with added capability and fun. Its interior is the same but adds a "rugged playful" theme to the R3X with use of cork, different fabric weaves, and "interesting ways to anodize metal," according to Rivian. These two compact SUVs are expected to be Rivian's most affordable offerings yet. The R3X takes the R3's design and adds a dash of off-road aggression.  It will likely have wider wheels and tires, increased ground clearance, and possibly some exterior trim that hints at its adventurous capability. The R3X to come with the latest driver-assistance technologies and connectivity options.  Given its off-road focus, it also might come with features like skid plates, tow hooks, and off-road drive modes. The 2027 Rivian R3X is an exciting addition to the electric SUV market.  It offers a unique blend of performance, capability, and affordability that should appeal to a wide range of drivers.
